Former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said that the backing of 30 governors would not be enough to guarantee victory for any candidate in the 2027 presidential election. Kwankwaso stressed that political endorsements and support from influential figures cannot automatically translate into votes at the polling units. According to him, the strength of a political campaign ultimately depends on the confidence and support of ordinary Nigerians. His comments come as political parties, opposition groups and potential presidential candidates intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kwankwaso maintained that candidates must establish strong grassroots structures, communicate effectively with voters and demonstrate a clear understanding of the challenges facing Nigerians. The former governor, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP, remains an influential figure in the country’s political landscape, particularly across northern Nigeria. His remarks have also added to the growing debate over the influence of governors and political structures in determining presidential election outcomes.
