Nigeria headed into the game with the best odds but was left to fight back when Iban Salvador gave Equatorial Guinea the lead 36 minutes into the game.
Victor Osimhen, the reigning African player of the year, rose to the occasion with a quick equalizer two minutes later.
Despite having better chances, Nigeria failed to capitalize on them and was lucky to finish with a point.
Nigeria’s next game is on the 18th, against host, Ivory Coast, who won their opening game 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau on Saturday.
