LP Chieftain Urges Tinubu Not To Ignore Protesters

A chieftain of the Labour Party, Tanko Yunusa, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu from ignoring the present socio-economic protests and has urged him to act quickly.

He stated this during an interview with Arise News, stressing that, “for the first time in the north they are involved in socioeconomic protest.”

“Mr President do not sit on that chair and think nothing can happen to you, help the people, do it now before it is too late,” he said

Yunusa emphasised that instead of the previous emphasis on religion, race, or tribalism, the protests in the north indicate a dramatic change towards socioeconomic issues. Despite giving a month’s warning, Yunusa criticised the government’s response, saying that “the government did not take precise position and deal with the issue immediately.”

He also condemned the alleged involvement of the President in sponsoring protests, stating, “Mr President has allegedly said to have been sponsoring protests and nobody has threatened or arrested him.”

According to Yunusa, if the President had  addressed issues such as fuel prices the protest could have been averted. “Had it been that the government of the day including Mr President had been able to make one single pronouncement to bring the prices of PMS down to 200 naira per litre we possibly wouldn’t have had this protest.”

In conclusion, the LP chieftain called on the President to take urgent action and stressed that the people’s demands must be met immediately.
