UCL: 10-man Barcelona succumb to defeat against Monaco

Barcelona’s Champions League campaign started on a frustrating note as Hansi Flick suffered a 2-1 defeat to Monaco.

The game didn’t kick off on a good note for the Spanish giants who got short to 10 men barely ten minutes into play after Eric Garcia, was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Takumi Minamino.

Six minutes later, Maghnes Akliouche gave Monaco the lead and in the 28th minute, youngster Lamine Yamal leveled for Barca, keeping things squared at halftime.

Later on in the second half, in the 71st minute, Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena, restored Monaco’s lead with his on his Champions League debut, becoming the French side’s youngest goal scorer.

The scoreline could have been more but Folarin Balogun’s penalty was overturned after a VAR review.
