Following the allegation of bribery and misappropriation of public funds against the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, a high court in Kano State has scheduled Nov. 20 for the hearing of all pending applications.
The court made this known on Wednesday, as it was scheduled to hear a preliminary objection from the sixth defendant.
Recall that the Kano State Government had filed an eight-count charge involving Ganduje and seven others over alleged bribery, misappropriation, and the diversion of public funds which amounted to billions of naira.
During the proceedings, Mr Adeola Adedipe, SAN, the counsel for the plaintiff, told the court of their readiness to proceed, with the hearing noting that a witness had traveled from Lagos to attend the hearing.
However, counsel for the first, second, and fourth defendants, Mr Offiong Offiong, SAN, requested that the hearing be adjourned to allow time to review the filings, stating that they had not been served the necessary documents, including the plaintiff’s counter affidavit and the preliminary objection.
In the same vein, Mr. Taye Falola, counsel for the third and seventh defendants, stated they had also not been served the documents.
Mr Nureini Jimoh, SAN, the attorney for the sixth defendant, stated that they were prepared to move on with their application, while Mr Faruk Asekome and Abdul Adamu SAN, the attorneys for the fifth and eighth defendants, shared similar worries about not receiving the plaintiff’s papers.
Overturning the plaintiff’s plea to move forward right away, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu stressed the significance of proper document service. In order to hear all current applications, the judge then postponed the matter until November 20.
