Hansi Flick’s Barcelona pulled off a dominant and brilliant second half display to undone arch rivals, Real Madrid with a statement 4-0 win in Sunday’s highly anticipated El Clasico.
Although both teams went at it in the first half, Madrid were arguably the better side but failed to take their chances, with Kylian Mbappe’s opener getting ruled off following a VAR review, leaving things even at the break.
After the break, Carlo Ancelotti’s failed to improve on their first half outing and simply succumbed to the pressure from the visitors, which saw Robert Lewandowski scored a brace in two minutes.
While Madrid struggled to find their footing in the game, Barca ruthlessly capitalized on their lead and soon increased the deficit to four, courtesy of two more goals from Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
The result ended Madrid’s 42 games unbeaten run and moved Barca to six points clear at the top of the La Liga.
