Man City, Chelsea crash out of Carabao Cup

First half goals from Timo Werner and Pape Sarr were just enough to help Tottenham Hotspur send Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup.

City had gone into the game as favourites but the hosts took the reins and held on to it, despite Matheus Nunes pulling one back for City before the break and all the pressure Pep Guardiola’s side mounted on Ange Postecoglou’s men.

The result means Spurs will square up against Manchester United in the quarter-finals.

Chelsea are also out of the competition having suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Newcastle.

The damage happened in the first half courtesy of Alexander Isak’s strike and an own goal by Axel Disasi.
