Human rights lawyer and popular influencer, Deji Adeyanju has said all efforts to get singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington out of police custody have so far proved abortive.
Recall that human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed the second arrest of Speed Darlington aka Akpi on his X handle on Wednesday afternoon. He revealed that the singer was apprehended during his recent show in Owerri, the Imo State capital for allegedly defaming his colleague, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy.
Adeyanju, the singer’s lawyer, stated on his official Facebook page on Wednesday night that the police had refused to release him on bail.
He wrote, “The Nigerian police brought our client Speed Darlington to Abuja from Owerri this evening and I just met him.
“They have refused to release him on bail over defamation of Burna Boy. Burna Boy, the Ojuelegba Fela sings about oppression but oppresses Akpi with the police.”
In a recent Instagram Live session with Daddy Freeze, Deji Adeyanju shed light on Speed Darlington’s rearrest and addressed music talent manager, Paulo’s remark about his legal career.
Despite facing numerous arrests and defamation, Deji Adeyanju affirmed that his sacrifices for the country have been made without ever oppressing an individual.
Providing clarity on defamation, Deji Adeyanju emphasized, “Whenever you’re defamed or insulted, you should seek legal remedies. The remedies for defamation are personal”.
The musician and controversial content creator was arrested for the first time on October 4, 2024.
The first arrest came after Speed Darlington put out a controversial video in which he allegedly mocked his colleague Burna Boy, associating him with American rapper Diddy, who has faced legal issues with the FBI over charges of immoral exploitation.
