In view of the 2027 election, the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has urged Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress, APC, over it’s failure to resolve the security challenges the nation is facing.
The coalition Spokesperson, Mark Adebayo, noted that the ruling party has failed Nigerians and have neglected it’s duty in safeguarding the nation. He noted that insecurity has heightened across various states, leading to the list of lives of millions of people, and others displaced due to terrorist attacks and kidnappings.
Over the years, the security challenges in Nigeria has continued to evolve inspite of the effort of security agencies in combating it. There is a need to look at the root cause and handle it from there.
Recall that yesterday President Bola Tinubu during the 2025 Regimental Dinner Night as part of events marking the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja had reassured Nigerians of his administration’s determination to rid the country of terrorism and protect life and property.
The President who has on several occasions noted that his administration is on security issues added that the “evolving security challenges that daily confront us” can only be tackled through a collective effort, adding that he would not relent in his commitment to adequately equip the security agencies to tackle insecurity.
However, in their view, the coalition has said it perceived the Federal Government’s failure in addressing the nation’s security challenges which have become a source of concern to citizens, and also local and foreign investors.
Speaking further, Adebayo, said: “This condemnation follows the recent massacre of 40 farmers in Borno State by the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, on January 12.”
He added that the incident “is a tragic example of the government’s inability to protect its citizens.”
He asked Nigerians “to reject the APC in the 2027 elections, warning of dire consequences if the current administration remained in power beyond that year.”
The issue of security has raised concerns for a lot of citizens as it continues to claims lives of millions of Nigerians, many now live in fear not knowing what will happen next. Away from the call by the coalition, one needs to take a critical look on handling this issue as not only changing a sitting government can curb the act.
Although the government has its role to play in safeguarding the nation, security agencies also need to beef up as well as the citizens playing their own role.
It is pertinent to note that today marks the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day to honour fallen heroes, who laid down their lives in service to humanity during the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, peace missions and various internal security operations, and also honour the serving personnel of the armed forces.
