A week after controversial Nigerian singer Speed Darlington’s release from detention, his legal team has announced that they are no longer his legal representatives.
Stan Alieke’s law firm had worked tirelessly to secure Speed Darlington’s freedom, where he spent two months due to an issue with fellow artist Burna Boy.
However, in a surprising twist Alieke announced on his Instagram story, that he and his law firm would no longer represent Speed Darlington.
On January 26, 2025, the lawyer, Stan Alieke, announced this on his Instagram story, saying “I and my law firm (Law Capitol) have officially withdrawn from legally representing Mr Darlington Achakpo, AKA Speed Darlington/Akpi and henceforth ceasing to act as his legal attorneys.”
The severed tie comes after a series of turbulent events involving the controversial singer, who was arrested on October 4th after he put out a video in which he allegedly mocked his colleague Burna Boy, associating him with American rapper Diddy, who has faced legal issues with the FBI over charges of sex trafficking and other crimes.
After being released, he was then rearrested on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, during a show in Owerri and was in detention for two months. Darlington’s freedom came days after he was admitted to a twenty million naira (20,000,000) bail by a federal high court in Abuja.
Following Speed Darlington’s release, the singer made a strong resolution. In a post, he shared a photo of his lawyer and announced that he would seek 300 million naira in damages for the alleged violation of his human rights.
Speed Darlington stated that he would be taking the matter “all the way” and vowed to mercilessly drag those involved. He drew parallels with a previous case, where he and his other lawyer, Stanley successfully sued a bank for violating his rights two years ago.
His recent post however hints at his resilience despite the intimidation he may face.
“Thank you 🙏🏿 Mazi David Ihuoma Esq. We going all the way! They must pay me for violating my human right 300 million naira. We will drag them more than Stanley and I dragged that bank that violated me two years ago.”
