Tyrese Gibson’s daughter reportedly terminates $10k monthly child support

Fast & Furious star Tyrese Gibson may be entering a new chapter in his fatherhood journey. According to circulating reports, his daughter Shayla has allegedly chosen to live with him full-time, bringing an end to the $10,000 monthly child support Tyrese was paying to his ex-wife, Norma Mitchell.

Tyrese and Norma divorced in 2009, and after years of custody battles, the court awarded them joint custody in 2017. But recent social media chatter claims Shayla, who reportedly turned 18 this year, has decided to stay with her father permanently after realizing attempts were made to turn her against him.

A viral post from January 2025 claimed Shayla now sees Tyrese in a different light, describing him as an “amazing man” and implying she had been wrongly influenced in the past. The post added that her turning 18 automatically ended her mother’s eligibility for child support.

However, the timeline is a bit murky. Official records show Shayla was born on August 17, 2007, meaning she won’t legally turn 18 until later this year. That detail throws some doubt on the reports suggesting the payments have already stopped, at least from a legal standpoint.

Despite that, many fans were quick to celebrate Shayla’s reported decision, viewing it as a heartfelt reunion after years of strained relations. Tyrese has long expressed pain over what he described as parental alienation, claiming Norma painted him in a bad light during their custody battle.

Their legal drama over the years has often made headlines. In 2017, Norma accused Tyrese of harsh discipline, resulting in a temporary suspension of his visitation rights. No charges were filed, and the court eventually reinstated joint custody.

Financial battles followed. In 2022, Tyrese was ordered to pay over $10,000 per month in child support for his younger daughter Soraya, while also claiming to pay $13,000 monthly for Shayla. By the end of 2024, he cited a massive drop in income and filed to reduce the payments.

While there has been no official confirmation through court documents or legal filings, the reports about Shayla’s decision have sparked a wave of support for Tyrese, who has been transparent about his struggles as a father.
