Ghana Minister Promises Action After Bimbo Ademoye Slams TV Stations for Copyright Theft

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku and the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George have promised to step in to help Nigerian producer and actress, Bimbo Ademoye over unauthorised broadcasts of her movies on Ghanaian TV stations.

Recall that Nigerian actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye called out two Ghanaian TV stations—Nollynew Series TV and Nolly Specials—for airing her movies without her permission, further tagging the officials to intervene.

Taking to Instagram, Bimbo poured out her frustration, saying:

“PSA!!. ENOUGH IS ENOUG!!!. I hate that I have to do this, but my blood, sweat tears , hardwork, money, sleepless nights will not be enjoyed by someone else!. As it is now there are already 2 channels that have stolen my title and my poster for about 2-3 days now.”

“They’re Nollynew series TV and Nolly specials. (Guys pls help me report thier channels) . It is very unfair , that we’d work ,day and night and one evil demon would come and reap where they didn’t sow. This time I will not take it.”She also urged her followers to report the pages involved, stating that creators like her shouldn’t be robbed of the revenue their content generates. Bimbo explained that the movies were uploaded to her official YouTube channel where she hoped to make returns—but now, others are profiting off her investment and hard work.

The situation escalated after Ghanaian socialite Miz Debbie claimed that the unauthorized broadcasts were actually “free promotion.” In a sharp response, Bimbo wrote:

“I am appalled by your level of ignorance! You set ring light to say what exactly! I spent my hard-earned millions to shoot a movie, put it on my channel and hope to make returns from views! Someone picks it up without my consent, posts on their platform, makes money off of it, which makes me lose millions, because those views could have gone to my channel and you have the audacity to say they’re promoting me!! Promoting me by stealing from me? Are you kidding me! “

Following her public outcry, Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, acknowledged her concerns and promised action.

“My attention has been drawn to your post thanks to the tag. I would be raising the issue with my colleague minister responsible for overseeing television content.

“I, however wish to assure you that our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same. I believe Ghana and Nigeria have so much we can continue to collaborate on for our mutual benefit,” he wrote.

Also stepping in was Kafui Danku, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s National Film Authority, who reassured Bimbo that steps are being taken behind the scenes.

“Hi ma’am, my management and I are working on putting a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks.”

The development has sparked wider conversations about copyright protection, cross-border media theft, and the need for tighter content regulation between Ghana and Nigeria.
