The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has blasted the opposition coalition which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition platform, noting that they have nothing to offer to Nigerians.
Wike blasted the coalition leaders one after another and described them as a gang of failed and expired politicians.
He noted that Senator David Mark who is the chairman of the coalition was only there because the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) did not give him the chairmanship platform . According to him, “I heard David Mark say they want to rescue Nigeria. That Nigerians are not happy. But the man was Senate President for 8 years, and Nigerians were happy? There was no single project in Otukpo. Not one. He was flying with a helicopter to Otukpo. Nigerians were not angry then, but they are angry now?”
“When you were in power, Nigerians were happy, but the moment you are no longer in power, Nigerians are no longer happy.
“Amaechi was minister. He took Chinese loans and made Nigeria so indebted to China. So, Nigerians were happy then?
“I saw Sirika. What happened to Air Nigeria? Nigerians were happy then?
“When they went to APC in 2013 and took over power, Nigerians were happy, but no longer happy today?
“Was it under Tinubu’s government that banditry came? What is he doing? To solve the problems he met.
“I read what Malami wrote. It was so shameful. He was AGF. What did he do? What was his contribution to resolving the security challenges?
“Tambuwal was Speaker for four years. What did he do to make Nigerians not be angry? He was governor for eight years. What did he do? What kind of politics are we playing?” he queried.
Meanwhile, a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is not happy that the opposition coalition adopted the party. The adoption was done on Tuesday after the opposition politicians and some ADC leaders met in Abuja, for a meeting.
Musa Isa Matara, the national publicity secretary of the faction, In a statement said the group is not a “private coalition platform” that should be hijacked by elite individuals.
“The ADC is not for sale. It belongs to its members, not political merchants or elite dealmakers.”
“The claim that the ADC has become the ‘platform of the National Opposition Coalition Group’ is misleading,”
“Our millions of members have not been informed or carried along in this so-called coalition, the statement added.
David Mark was appointed as interim national chairman and and Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun governor, secretary while a former minister of sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, was appointed as the coalition’s spokesperson.
The coalition was birthed by opposition political leaders led by Atiku Abubakar to unsit the present administration in the 2027 general election. Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Bukola Saraki, Rotimi Amaechi, Abubakar Malami, and others are members of the coalition.
