Tottenham miss out on Super Cup Triumph to PSG

Tottenham Hotspurs missed out on the chance to claim a second European trophy in three months, coming from a 2-0 lead to lose 4-3 on penalties to European Champions, PSG.

Having clinched the Europa League three months ago, thanks to a 1-0 win over Man Utd, Tottenham had hoped that new manager, Thomas Frank would open his account with a silverware, but that wasn’t the case, inspite of their impressive start to the game.ย

PSG, off the back of a disappointing defeat to Chelsea in the Club World Cup, looked set to relive the experience with another English team, trailing 2-0 behind Spurs late into the game.

However, in a dramatic show of resilience, late goals from Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos cancelled out Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s earlier goals to send the tie into penalties.

And despite, Vitinha missing the opening shoot for the French Champions, Luis Enrique’s men had the last laugh after Mathys Tel shot went wide and before Nuno Mendes sent home the winning kick.ย
