Nigeria clocked 65 years of independence and what usually use to be a celebration took a different look this year following the President Bola Tinubu cancellation of the military parade.
Meanwhile, reactions has trailed the Presidents speech, some sees it as an appraisal of his tenure rather than the historical significance of the day, while others commended him for his reformations.

Dear Mr. President,
— ADC Vanguard (@ADCVanguard_) October 1, 2025
On this 65th Independence Anniversary, your words of hope ring hollow against the painful reality Nigerians face daily. Beyond rhetoric, the nation you lead is crumbling under insecurity, hunger, and economic despair.
From Kwara to Delta, citizens flee homes…
Thank you My President for this inspiring message. Watching and reading your words today, I am reminded again that the greatness of Nigeria is not in doubt, it only requires leaders with vision and citizens with the will to act.

Mr. President, on this 65th Anniversary, Nigerians deserve honesty, not poetry. You speak of “fixing the plumbing” and “turning on taps of productivity.” But the real taps you’ve opened are those draining the people’s pockets — reducing their purchasing power and expanding the…

In his speech which follows as part of the celebration to mark the day, President Tinubu called on Nigerians to “turn on the taps of productivity, innovation, and enterprise, just like the Ministry of Interior has done with our travel passports, by quickening the processing”.
On this 65th Anniversary of our Independence, my message is hope and a call to action. The federal government will continue to do its part to fix the plumbing in our economy.

Now, we must all turn on the taps of productivity, innovation, and enterprise, just like the Ministry… pic.twitter.com/roUddCp1sE
His speech has been condemned by the spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, noting that the President’s speech writers failed to understand the historical significance of the moment.”
“Listening to the President, you will think he was delivering his budget speech, annual performance review, rather than speaking to a history of a nation like Nigeria, at this critical time. I was waiting for when the President will anchor everything he was saying within a historical context, but apparently, the President was not able to rise above the limitations of his administration,” the ADC chieftain said.
“Most of what the president said regarding the economy do not reflect the reality of Nigerians.”
“For me, I think it’s a big disappointment that the President did not understand the historical significance of this moment, and rather choose to use the budget speech to say this is what my government has done,” Abdullahi said.
Meanwhile, part of the President’s speech has also received mix reactions from X users.
“We are now a Net Exporter. We are now selling more to the world than we are buying, a fundamental shift that strengthens our currency and creates jobs at home”. See reactions.
It’s important to note that this claim is mostly riding on naira devaluation.
— Oke O Matarazi (@OMatarazi) October 1, 2025
The so-called shift to being a net exporter is not necessarily because we suddenly started producing or selling much more, but because the weaker naira makes imports appear smaller in dollar terms…
I feel strongly that the people he has surrounded himself with are feeding him lies about the state of the nation, or he is outright wicked, and he doesn't want to pay attention to the truth.

ALL FOR VANITY.
Did the afterlife get an update?
Does wealth guarantee safe passage?
We appreciate your efforts and love. Indeed, Nigeria is moving forward under your administration.
