Liverpool saw their hopes of returning to the top of the premier league table dashed as they fought out a high-quality draw against title rivals, Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.
Liverpool, who knew victory would see them leapfrog Leicester City and Tottenham, reaped an early reward when Salah put them ahead from the spot in the 13th minute after Kyle Walker brought down Mane.
City levelled just after the half-hour when Gabriel Jesus turned superbly before slotting past Alisson.
Pep Guardiola’s side wasted a golden chance to go ahead before half-time when De Bruyne rolled his penalty wide after handball had been awarded against Joe Gomez following a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) deliberation.
Both sides pushed for the winner but it was City who grew stronger as the game went on, Jesus sending a glorious headed chance wide to leave both sides having to settle for a point.
West Brom 0 – 1 Tottenham
Meanwhile, a third successive league victory temporarily lifted Tottenham to the top of the table on Sunday before Leicester replaced them after their 1-0 win against Wolves.
A game of few chances seemed destined to end goalless after Hugo Lloris had kept out Darnell Furlong’s second-half header and a flurry of Tottenham chances had come and gone without reward.
But, as has been the case so often in the past, Kane punished a minor lack of concentration to head home an 88th-minute winner which also doubled as his 150th Premier League goal.
The England captain’s latest feat comes only days after he scored his 200th goal for the club. Only Alan Shearer (212) and Sergio Aguero (217) scored their 150th Premier League goal in fewer appearances than Harry Kane (218).
For West Brom, who have now scored once in their last five games, it was a result that keeps them in the relegation zone and already facing a tough battle to retain their top-flight status.
