Nigerian music mogul and producer, Don Jazzy, has opened up about one of the lowest points in his career — the painful collapse of Mo’Hits Records in 2012.
In a candid interview with Rolling Stone, the Mavin Records boss revealed that the unexpected split between him and D’banj left him deeply discouraged and uncertain about his future in music.
“When Mo’Hits ended, I thought that was it. I almost packed up to move abroad. But friends encouraged me to stay and start again, and Mavin Records was born. Since then, I’ve learned not to let anything break me,” Don Jazzy shared.
The award-winning producer said that period of setback turned out to be a defining moment in his life. It taught him resilience and shaped his outlook on overcoming challenges in the industry.
After Mo’Hits dissolved, Don Jazzy didn’t just bounce back — he built one of Africa’s most influential record labels, Mavin Records. Under his leadership, Mavin has produced global stars like Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Reekado Banks, Johnny Drille, Rema, and Ayra Starr.
In 2024, Mavin Records made history again when Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in the label — a move that cemented Don Jazzy’s status as one of Africa’s most successful and visionary music entrepreneurs.
From near quitting to global recognition, Don Jazzy’s story remains an inspiring lesson in persistence and reinvention.
