Legendary Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba, has reflected on the impact of his timeless hit “African Queen.”
Speaking on a recent episode of the Entertainment & Lifestyle Show, the singer described the classic as both a blessing and a burden, acknowledging its role in shaping his career while admitting it has also come with its share of challenges.
“African Queen has been a very huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me. But I am grateful for everything,” 2Face said.
Released in 2004, African Queen catapulted 2Face to international stardom, making him the first African artist to win BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards.
However, the hit song has long been trailed by controversy over its authorship. 2Face’s former bandmate, Blackface, has repeatedly accused him of stealing the song. 2Face, in a previous interview, admitted that African Queen originated as a collaboration with his former bandmates but firmly denied any wrongdoing.
Despite the lingering debates, African Queen remains one of the most iconic love songs in African music history. The conversation was reignited in August 2025, when Billboard named the track the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time.”
