“I Became a Comedian After Failing at Internet Fraud” – Destalker Reveals His Journey

Popular Nigerian comedian Destalker has opened up about his past struggles and how he found his true calling in comedy after failing at internet fraud.

Speaking on a recent episode of the In-house Gist podcast, Destalker revealed that before fame found him, he once tried his hands on internet fraud but couldn’t go through with it because of his kindhearted nature.

“Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friends who is now a pastor, but I wasn’t successful at it,” he said.
“Then we would book night sessions at a cyber café for ₦250. I couldn’t afford it, so my friend always paid for me. He is now a big pastor, Rev. Nelson Umeh.”

The comedian explained that while his friend was busy scouting for victims online, he would instead chat with his family and old schoolmates from Ughelli on Facebook — often falling asleep afterward.

“There’s no need for overspending when you are on the wrong lane. It was not my destiny. I can’t defraud anyone because I am kindhearted,” Destalker said.

He added that his failed attempt at fraud became a turning point that led him to discover his real path.

“Because of all that I went through, I have grown so confident that no one can stop me from achieving my goal,” he declared.

Destalker also shared how some comedians once tried to block him from performing at shows, but he remained determined.

“Some said without them I wouldn’t perform at certain shows, and I told them I would blow even without performing there. And I did. Some of those shows are gone now, and some of the comedians are no longer relevant,” he said confidently.

Through his story, Destalker proves that failure can sometimes be a divine redirection toward purpose — and that staying true to one’s values always pays off in the end.
