Mixed Fortunes in UCL: Arsenal Shine, Real Madrid Dominate, Liverpool Suffer PSV Upset

Arsenal defeated Bayern Munich 3-1 in a thrilling Champions League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Gunners were dominant from the beginning of the game and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Jurrien Timber headed in Bukayo Saka’s corner.

Bayern equalised through Lennart Karl in the half-hour mark to return the pressure on their hosts.

It was in the second half that Noni Madueke scored his first goal for Arsenal to put them ahead again before Gabriel Martinelli sealed their victory with a third.

After five game, Mikel Arteta’s side keep their 100% run intact, having won all their games in the competition this season.

They handed Bayern Munich their first defeat of the season.

Real Madrid played a seven-goal thriller with hosts Olympiakos as they clinched a 4-3 victory, with Kylian Mbappe scoring four goals.

It ended a three-game winless run for Real Madrid in all competitions and marked their first competitive win in Athens in their 10th visit.

Real are fifth in the standings, three points off leaders Arsenal, while their Greek hosts are 33rd on two points.

Meanwhile, at Anfield, Liverpool fell to yet another stunning defeat, losing 4-1 to visiting PSV.

Elsewhere, Ademola Lookman scored to help Atalanta clinch a 3-0 victory over their hosts Frankfurt. It was a repeat of their Europa League final two seasons ago.

In the other Champions League clashes played on Wednesday, defending champions PSG beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-3, Sporting Lisbon thrashed Club Brugge 3-0, Atletico Madrid saw off Inter Milan 2-1, Monaco draw Pafos 2-2 while Copenhagen beat Kairat 3-2.
