Spain left absolutely no stone unturned as they ran rampage on Germany with Manchester City winger Ferran Torres scoring his first career hat-trick to ensure his side inflicted Germany with their heaviest competitive defeat since 1931, to book a spot in the final four (teams) of the UEFA Nations League finals.
Going into the game, Germany were unbeaten in 2020, and in control of Group A4.
They needed to avoid defeat to reach the finals but they were below par throughout as they failed to register a single shot on target, with Serge Gnabry coming closest when his 22-yard effort rebounded off the bar in the dying moments.
In a repeat of the Euro 2008 final, former Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata headed in Spain’s first goal, before Torres volleyed home emphatically.
Rodri made it three with a guided header, and Torres slotted in a fourth before curling home the fifth.
Mikel Oyarzabal’s tap-in made it 6-0 few minutes from stoppage time.
The only setbacks on a fantastic night for Spain were muscular injuries to captain Sergio Ramos and Sergio Canales.
Going into the final four, Spain and France will be joined by either Belgium or Denmark from Group A2 and Italy, the Netherlands or Poland from Group A1.
