“Five years after their record-shattering hit ‘Running (To You)’, fans were desperate for Simi and Chike to strike gold again. But when the snippet for their new single ‘Where You Dey’ dropped last year, the official release seemed to vanish into thin air—until now.
In an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), Simi has finally pulled back the curtain on the ‘blur’ that was her life during the recording process. The singer revealed that she was battling a debilitating combination of illness, exhaustion, and a secret pregnancy that made even standing up a chore.
“I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired, and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to,” Simi shared. “I really, really wanted to drop this song last year… but even in the snippet video, I wasn’t feeling great. I was just trying my best.”
The ‘Chike’ Factor Simi didn’t hold back her praise for Chike, calling him the ‘perfect collaborator.’ She revealed that Chike rushed to her studio the moment he returned from a trip to record his verse—completely unaware that she was physically suffering behind the scenes.
Silencing the Trolls Perhaps the most “fire” part of her reveal was a direct message to her critics. Simi used the moment to shut down long-standing rumors that she had ‘given up her career’ since marrying Adekunle Gold.
‘PS: This is a chance for those of you that say I gave up my career for marriage to shut the f** up,’* she added pointedly.
Despite the delays and her personal struggles, Simi ended up mixing and mastering the track herself—a feat of resilience that has fans calling her the ‘undisputed GOAT’ of the industry.”
