The drama surrounding Nollywood actress Angela Okorie took a sharp and confusing turn on Tuesday, leaving fans scrambling for the truth. After being granted a ₦5 million bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja following her remand at Suleja Prison, the actress was reportedly re-arrested just moments after regaining her freedom.
The second arrest, which reportedly occurred right outside the prison gates, was not over fresh criminal charges but a debt-related dispute. Fellow actress Doris Ogala alleged in a viral video that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who was hired to facilitate her initial bail, ordered the arrest over an unpaid ₦5 million legal fee. According to Ogala, Angela allegedly refused to pay the agreed amount, leading to her being whisked away to the FCT Police Command.+2
However, the situation seems to have de-escalated. Her associate and filmmaker Stanley Ontop, along with her lawyer Marshal Abubakar, confirmed late Tuesday night that the actress has been released once more. The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT Command reportedly ordered her release after legal interventions. While the “cyberstalking and defamation” trial involving Mercy Johnson is still looming for March, for now, Angela Okorie is confirmed to be “fine and safe” at home.
