Nollywood legend Pete Edochie has personally shut down viral rumors claiming he has passed away. The 78-year-old icon, widely known as “Ebubedike,” released a video on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to reassure fans that he is “alive and kicking” after “RIP” hashtags began trending on TikTok and WhatsApp.
In the video, Edochie expressed frustration over the recurring hoaxes, noting that he has been “killed” by the internet at least seven times since 2012. The latest rumor falsely claimed he had been rushed to the hospital and passed away, with some reports even alleging his son, Uche Edochie, had confirmed the news. Pete Edochie dismissed these claims as the work of “irresponsible” individuals seeking social media engagement.
“I am alive and well,” the veteran actor stated, adding that he will only go when his “maker calls him home.” He also shared a piece of wisdom he learned from the late Nnamdi Azikiwe: “Anybody who wishes you death will die before you.” Edochie, who will turn 79 on March 7, credited his family’s history of longevity—his father lived to be 96—for his continued vitality. Fans and colleagues have since flooded social media with prayers and well-wishes, celebrating the “Lion of Africa” for once again outliving the rumors.
