Nollywood leading man Daniel Etim-Effiong has found himself at the center of a social media storm following a series of candid interviews where he shared his unconventional—and to some, controversial—views on marriage, attraction, and his personal past.
The outrage was sparked by his recent appearance on the Mansplanation podcast and WithChude, where the actor spoke openly about the realities of maintaining a marriage in the spotlight. One of the most talked-about points was his statement that he loves his wife, Toyosi, more than his children, arguing that a healthy marital bond is the essential foundation for a stable home. While some praised his devotion to his spouse, others criticized the stance as being “insensitive” to the parental bond.
The heat intensified when the conversation turned to “attraction outside of marriage.” Etim-Effiong admitted that marriage does not automatically kill the ability to be attracted to others or erase old habits. Reflecting on his younger years, he confessed to once being a “womanizer” or “player,” warning young men that if they don’t develop the “muscle” of commitment before marriage, they will struggle to stay faithful once they wed.
“If you are not able to commit to one person… that won’t automatically change when you marry. That muscle hasn’t been developed,” he noted.
Adding to the fire, his wife, Toyosi Etim-Effiong, recently made headlines herself by stating on the Moments with Toke podcast that cheating is not a dealbreaker for her, preferring to fight for her marriage through prayer and communication rather than walking away.
While some fans are hailing the couple for their “refreshing honesty” and “realistic” view of modern marriage, critics on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram have slammed the comments as potentially “normalizing infidelity.
