The Nigerian music industry is standing still today as legendary icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia officially kicks off the final leg of celebrations for his 25th year on stage.
The “African Queen” crooner, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, shared a moving “Open Letter of Gratitude” to the mentors and colleagues who shaped his journey—from his breakout days with the Plantashun Boiz in the late ’90s to his status as a solo global powerhouse. 2Baba specifically credited industry veterans like Nelson Brown, Kenny Ogungbe, Dayo Adeneye (D1), and DJ Jimmy Jatt for believing in his vision when he “barely had a microphone.”
To mark this silver jubilee, the singer has announced a historic homecoming concert titled “The 2Baba Experience,” scheduled for March 29, 2026, at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos. The event is being described as a “living documentary” of the evolution of modern Afrobeats.
“This celebration is bigger than me. It is about the journey of our music, our culture, and the many talented artists who have carried the sound of Africa to the world,” 2Baba stated.
Fans can expect a curated journey through his massive discography, featuring special guest appearances from both the “Old Guard” and the “New Wave” of African music. The anniversary also marks the lead-up to his highly anticipated docu-series and book, “I Am Innocent: The Untold Story of Me,” alongside a brand-new album.
As tributes pour in from fellow stars like Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, the consensus is clear: 2Baba remains the primary architect of the sound that put Nigeria on the global map.
