It is a pivotal day in Ondo State as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) holds its rescheduled State Congress today, Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The exercise, taking place at the International Culture and Event Centre (The Dome) in Akure, follows a brief legal hiatus. A Federal High Court order had initially restrained the party from conducting the congress on March 3, but the APC National Leadership recently notified INEC that all internal disputes have been amicably resolved, paving the way for today’s elections.
Delegates from all 18 local government areas are expected to elect a new State Working Committee (SWC). The atmosphere remains charged as the party seeks to solidify its structure ahead of upcoming national conventions.
Parallel to the political activity, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has taken a hardline stance on the state’s security. Following a surge in abductions—including a recent attack that claimed the life of a community monarch—the Governor has ordered an immediate and coordinated crackdown on kidnapping gangs.
In a high-level meeting with security agencies and stakeholders, including the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Aiyedatiwa revealed that investigations have unraveled the involvement of local collaborators who provide intelligence to criminal syndicates.
“If investigations trace any criminal activity to anyone, whether they have legitimate business or not, they will be treated like criminals. No godfather, sponsor, or collaborator will be spared,” the Governor warned.
To support this offensive, the state has recently recruited 500 additional Amotekun personnel and deployed new patrol vehicles to flashpoint areas like Ilu Abo. Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the safety of residents is his “foremost priority” and cautioned against protests that could be hijacked by hoodlums, urging citizens to instead use community-based intelligence to flush out “unscrupulous elements.”
