Davido has officially signaled a major shift in his musical career, declaring that he is moving away from the pursuit of Western accolades like the Grammy Awards and redirecting his focus toward authentic, African-rooted sounds.
During a recent appearance on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show hosted by Eddie Kadi, the Afrobeats superstar reflected on his extensive career, noting that after fifteen years of touring globally, selling out major arenas, and earning consecutive Grammy nominations over the past three years, he feels he has achieved his international milestones. He emphasized that he is no longer interested in tailoring his music to fit Western standards or seeking validation from international bodies.
According to Davido, his upcoming projects will be “very Davido” and “very African.” He expressed that having already “done it” in terms of global crossover success, he now feels a strong desire to reconnect with the sounds that reflect his roots and identity. This strategic pivot comes alongside the announcement of his first-ever self-curated music festival, the “Davido & Friends Festival,” which is scheduled to take place at the historic Crystal Palace Bowl in London on August 14, 2026.
Industry observers view this development as a significant moment in the evolution of Afrobeats, as one of the genre’s most prominent figures shifts his creative autonomy toward cementing the African sound on its own terms rather than chasing international approval.
