Gospel Legend and Nollywood Soundtrack Queen Onos Brisibi Dies at 55

The Nigerian gospel and film communities are in deep mourning following the passing of Onos Nancy Brisibi, a legendary singer and the unmistakable voice behind some of Nollywood’s most iconic soundtracks. She passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 55, after a prolonged and difficult illness.

The news was confirmed in a heartfelt tribute by her cousin, veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), who described her as “love in human form” and a gifted songstress whose voice carried immense light. Born on November 20, 1970, in Delta State, Onos began her musical journey at the age of nine and eventually became the premier soundtrack artist for the “Golden Age” of Nollywood. Her soulful, haunting vocals defined era-defining films such as Domitilla, Blood Money, Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion, and Shame.

Beyond her cinematic contributions, Onos was a devoted minister within LoveWorld Ministries (Christ Embassy), where she served as a passionate worship leader. Her impact extended into mainstream music as well, notably providing the distinctive backing vocals for Lagbaja’s classic hit “Gra Gra.” Colleagues across the industry, including Stella Damasus and broadcaster Emma Ugolee, have expressed their devastation, remembering her not just for her immense talent but for her “quiet swag,” humor, and unwavering faith. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah, her mother, and her siblings.
