Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu Affirmed as Party Leaders at Abuja Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully held its national convention in Abuja this past Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. During the event, the faction of the party aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike moved to consolidate its leadership through a consensus arrangement.

Abdulrahman Mohammed was officially affirmed as the National Chairman, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu was re-elected as the National Secretary. Over 2,000 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory participated in the exercise, which also saw the endorsement of a 22-member National Working Committee (NWC). Following the convention, the new leadership was sworn in to steer the party’s affairs for the next four years, with the Wike-led bloc emphasizing a call for unity within the fractured party.

Significantly, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official website to reflect Abdulrahman Mohammed as the National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary, formally recognizing this faction as the party’s leadership. This move concludes a period of intense internal disputes and legal battles over the party’s legitimate direction, although rival factions continue to express disagreement with the outcome.
