2Face Idibia Sparks Outrage After Claiming Nigeria is “Better Off” Now

Music legend Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has found himself at the center of a heated national debate following a recent interview on Wazobia TV that aired on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The singer’s optimistic outlook on Nigeria’s current state has triggered strong reactions across social media platforms.

The “Better Off” Remark

During the interview, host Yaw referenced 2Baba’s 2006 classic hit “E Be Like Say,” pointing out that the socio-political issues highlighted in that song—such as poor governance and lack of infrastructure—seem to be repeating in today’s climate.

2Baba, however, disagreed with the comparison, stating:

“We are better off than many years ago. Just look at it.”

He doubled down on this positive stance by declaring himself a “self-appointed ambassador of Nigeria,” vowing to continue using his platform to project the country positively and contribute to national development in his personal capacity. He clarified that while he remains a voice for positive change, he has no current plans to venture into active politics.

The Backlash

The comment has met with significant pushback from Nigerians who cite the soaring cost of living, persistent insecurity, and economic hardship as evidence to the contrary. Critics on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram have called the singer “out of touch,” with some jokingly suggesting he is “seeing a different Nigeria” than the average citizen. Conversely, a smaller group of supporters has defended his right to be optimistic, pointing to certain infrastructure projects and digital advancements as signs of progress.
