Two Days, Six Projects: Inside President Tinubu’s High-Profile “Legacy” Tour of Lagos

President Bola Tinubu is officially in Lagos today, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, for a landmark two-day working visit to inaugurate a series of high-impact infrastructure projects completed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

The center of the visit was the commissioning of the Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge, a 5.04-kilometer project designed to provide a direct connection between Ikeja and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, effectively bypassing some of the state’s most notorious traffic bottlenecks.

The “Legacy” Commissions

Beyond the Opebi bridge, the President’s itinerary includes several other “Greater Lagos” vision projects:

  • Digital Land Services: The Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) building in Alausa, designed to modernize land records and geospatial mapping.
  • Unified Governance: The Lagos Multi-Agency Building, a massive administrative hub also located in Alausa.
  • Education & Sports: The regenerated Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle—an all-inclusive facility for over 20,000 students—and the Maracana Stadium, which features 19 mini-football pitches.
  • Food Security: The Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki, aimed at streamlining food distribution along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

Commuter Advisory & Road Closures

To accommodate the presidential movement and ceremonies, the Ministry of Transportation has enforced several partial road closures:

  • Today (Wednesday): Traffic disruptions are ongoing around Ikeja, Maryland, and Ojota until late afternoon.
  • Tomorrow (Thursday, April 9):
    • 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Significant disruptions are expected in the Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle axes for the commissioning of the Tolu Schools Complex.
    • 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Expect heavy delays around Eko Hotel and Victoria Island as the President attends a closing event in the evening.

Over 500 LASTMA personnel have been deployed to manage traffic flow, but residents are advised to plan for extra travel time or seek alternative routes where possible.
