Day 2 in Lagos: Inside the Record-Breaking Tolu Schools Complex Tinubu is Opening Today

President Bola Tinubu enters the second day of his working visit to Lagos today, Thursday, April 9, 2026. While the President has been in the state since the weekend, Senate President Godswill Akpabio stepped in to represent him during yesterday’s high-profile ceremonies.

The Ajegunle “Mega School” Commissioning

This morning, the focus shifts to the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle.

  • The Project: Often referred to as “the largest school community in Africa,” this massive 11.7-hectare site has been completely regenerated. It houses 36 different schools (primary, junior, and senior secondary) and is built to accommodate over 20,000 students with modern ICT labs and upgraded infrastructure.
  • Timeline: The inauguration ceremony is scheduled between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Yesterday’s Recap: Akpabio’s Role

In a notable turn of events on Wednesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio stood in for President Tinubu to officially open several major projects.

  • Opebi-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge: Akpabio cut the ribbon on this 5.04km strategic bridge, which is expected to finally solve the perennial traffic nightmare between Ikeja and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
  • Administrative Hubs: He also commissioned the Lagos State Multi-Agency Complex in Alausa (officially named the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex) and the e-GIS Building, which will digitize land registration in the state.
  • Presence: Akpabio noted that as a “Lagosian” of 30 years, he was well-positioned to attest to the city’s transformation, explaining that the President’s national responsibilities occasionally necessitate such representation.
