Lagos socialite and nightclub owner Mike Nwalie, popularly known as Pretty Mike, has been officially discharged and acquitted of all drug-related charges by a Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Alagoa delivered the ruling on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, after upholding a “no-case submission” filed by the defense. The court found that the evidence presented by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was insufficient to link the socialite to any criminal activity.
The “No-Case” Breakthrough
The legal battle, which began following an October 2025 raid on Pretty Mike’s Proxy Lagos nightclub in Victoria Island, concluded at the preliminary stage:
- The Allegations: The NDLEA had originally filed a three-count charge involving conspiracy, unlawful possession of hard drugs, and allowing his premises to be used for illicit drug activities. The agency claimed to have seized 169 cylinders of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and 200 grams of cannabis during the raid.
- The Defense’s Argument: Lead counsel Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN) argued that the prosecution failed to provide any credible evidence directly linking Pretty Mike or the club supervisor, Joachim Hillary, to the ownership or knowledge of the substances.
- The Judge’s Verdict: Justice Alagoa agreed, stating that the prosecution’s case was built on “mere suspicion” rather than cogent facts. He ruled that the evidence did not meet the minimum legal standard to require the defendants to even open a defense.
Impact on “Proxy Lagos”
The discharge effectively terminates the criminal proceedings and removes the threat of permanent forfeiture that had been hanging over the Victoria Island nightclub.
- Interim Forfeiture Lifted: Following the raid in late 2025, the court had ordered an interim forfeiture of the property. With this acquittal, the club is expected to resume full operations without further legal restrictions.
- Supervisor Cleared: The club’s supervisor, Joachim Hillary, who was arraigned alongside the socialite, was also discharged in the same ruling.
