Meet the 6 Zonal Reps Appointed to the Nigeria Police Academy Governing Council

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reconstituted the 16-member Governing Council of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. The announcement, made through a statement by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga on Monday, April 20, 2026, aims to strengthen the institutional leadership of the nation’s premier police training university.

Leadership and Membership

The President has appointed the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, to serve as the Chairman of the Council.

The council includes a mix of statutory members and representatives from key ministries and geographical regions:

  • Statutory Members:
    • Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC)
    • Inspector-General of Police (IGP)
  • Ministry Representatives:
    • Federal Ministry of Education
    • Federal Ministry of Finance
    • Federal Ministry of Justice
  • Ex-Officio Members:
    • The Commandant of the Academy
    • The Provost of the Academy
    • The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Training
  • Secretary: The Registrar of the Academy

Zonal Representatives

To ensure national character and regional representation, the President appointed six individuals to represent Nigeria’s geopolitical zones:

  • North East: Babagana Zannah Adam (DCP Rtd.)
  • North Central: Emmanuel Torkuma Manger
  • North West: Maigari Abati Dikko (DIG Rtd.)
  • South East: Dubem A. Obaze (KSM)
  • South West: Ajibogere Toyin
  • South South: Udom Udo Ekpoudom (DIG Rtd.)

Expansion and Funding Approval

In a related strategic move, President Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus for the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

To facilitate this expansion, the President sanctioned a ₦15 billion special take-off grant, to be drawn from the 2026 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) allocation. This expansion is in line with the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which mandates the institution to evolve into a multi-campus university to meet the growing manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.
