The “Single-Term” Pact
The resolution, moved by Hon. Afam Victor Ogene and seconded by Seyi Sowunmi, contains a specific condition that differentiates it from traditional party platforms:
- Southern Slot (2027): The presidential ticket is reserved for a Southern candidate for a single four-year term.
- Northern Return (2031): Upon completion of that four-year term, the ticket automatically rotates back to the North.

Kwankwaso & Obi: The New Alliance?
The convention was notable for the heavy presence of top opposition figures, signaling a potential “Mega Party” consolidation:
- Rabiu Kwankwaso’s Support: In a significant show of solidarity, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former Kano Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, publicly endorsed the zoning. He stated that the move allows the South to “complete its turn” in national leadership and pledged his full support to the arrangement.
- The Peter Obi Factor: Political analysts suggest this zoning clears a massive hurdle for Peter Obi.
