The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced a last-minute adjustment to its internal election timetable, shifting the House of Representatives primary elections by one day. Originally scheduled to hold on Friday, May 15, the exercise has now been moved to Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The announcement was made via an official statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. While the party did not provide an official reason for the 24-hour delay, internal reports point to widening consultations and localized revolts over the adoption of “consensus” candidates in several states. For entertainment figures, celebrities, and heavyweights currently testing the political waters under the ruling party’s umbrella, this brief window offers a final day of strategic groundwork.

Morka explicitly noted that while the House of Reps schedule has shifted, all other previously announced dates for the party’s primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections remain firmly locked in:
| Legislative / Executive Office | New Primary Election Date |
| House of Representatives | Saturday, May 16, 2026 |
| Senate | Monday, May 18, 2026 |
| State House of Assembly | Wednesday, May 20, 2026 |
| Governorship | Thursday, May 21, 2026 |
| Presidential | Saturday, May 23, 2026 |
President Tinubu Warns Against “Do-or-Die” Politics
Coinciding with the adjustment, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued a stern warning to all aspirants, party executives, and delegates nationwide. In a personally signed statement, the President cautioned party members against turning the democratic process into a war zone.
“We should not play the politics of old; the do-or-die politics that we have put behind us. Politics should never be a zero-sum game. Where consensus fails, I urge us all to go into the primaries as brothers and sisters.”
— President Bola Tinubu
The President stressed that losers must accept the internal outcomes with sportsmanship, while winners must avoid toxic triumphalism to ensure party cohesion going into the main 2027 campaigns.
