“They Denied Him Food”: El-Rufai’s Wife, Son Accuse ICPC of Violating Detained Governor’s Rights

The family of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has raised a strong alarm over his treatment in custody, accusing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of violating his rights. His wife, Aichatou El-Rufai, stated that the anti-graft agency has actively denied family members access to her detained husband. In a video circulating on social media, she alleged that she has faced severe restrictions while trying to provide basic personal care to him, including being barred from delivering his meals.

Backing these claims, the former governor’s son, Bello El-Rufai, who is also a member of the House of Representatives, provided further details regarding the situation. He alleged that his mother was turned back by ICPC personnel at around 7:00 p.m. when she attempted to deliver her husband’s evening meal, with officials claiming that food deliveries were strictly forbidden after 6:30 p.m. The family further accused the agency of violating a standing court order by blocking El-Rufai’s access to necessary medical evaluation from his doctor, intensifying the ongoing legal and political face-off between the former governor and the anti-graft commission.
