NDC Reps Blast Oshiomhole Over Attack on Peter Obi’s Security Record

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus in the House of Representatives has fiercely fired back at the Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, over his recent sweeping criticisms of the NDC’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. Oshiomhole had claimed during a recent podcast interview on Mic On Podcast that security conditions in Edo State under his stewardship were vastly superior to Anambra State under Obi, going as far as declaring Obi unfit to lead Nigeria out of its current security crisis.

Reacting strongly in a statement, the Leader of the NDC House Caucus, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, dismissed Oshiomhole’s comments as a “brazen falsehood” and a laughable piece of “revisionist history”. Ogene systematically picked apart the former Edo Governor’s historical timelines. He slammed Oshiomhole’s attempt to tie the notorious “Bakassi Boys” vigilante group to Peter Obi’s tenure, pointing out that the group actually operated during the late Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju’s administration and was long gone by the time Obi took over the reins of Anambra State in 2006. Ogene noted that Oshiomhole conveniently erased the entire three-year administration of Dr. Chris Ngige just to create a false narrative to smear Obi.

The NDC lawmaker also flattened Oshiomhole’s claim that the demolition of kidnappers’ hideouts—a famous deterrence policy in Anambra—was initiated by Obi’s successor, Willie Obiano. Ogene clarified that Obi pioneering that very policy, alongside building a highly robust community-based security framework across all 177 communities in Anambra, earned the state numerous governance and security awards at the time. Chiding Oshiomhole for morphing into a “self-appointed press secretary” and “attack dog” for President Bola Tinubu, the caucus insisted that no amount of sponsored smear campaigns can minimize Peter Obi’s political relevance or deny him his democratic rights as the country heads towards the next election cycle.
