Emmanuel Obasi, the former husband of Nollywood actress Judy Austin, has released a public video apology and clarification addressing his recent emotional outburst on The Honest Bunch podcast. Setting the record straight after a clip of him dabbing his eyes with a handkerchief went viral, Obasi firmly rejected the narrative that he was weeping over his ex-wife or their crashed marriage.
The initial wave of controversy erupted after Obasi appeared on the popular podcast to detail the breakdown of his relationship with Judy Austin, who is now married to actor Yul Edochie. During the sit-down, he dropped explosive claims, alleging that Judy was already heavily infatuated with and dating Edochie while she was still legally married to him. However, instead of focusing on the timelines of the relationship, the internet quickly hyper-focused on a vulnerable moment where Obasi broke down in tears, with many netizens mocking him and claiming he was heartbroken over losing his former spouse.
Reacting to the online backlash in a follow-up video, Obasi apologized for losing his composure but made it clear that his tears were triggered purely by the painful, forced separation from his children. “I want to use this opportunity to apologise for crying on that podcast; it was not my fault. I was emotional; I didn’t travel from Onitsha to Lagos to cry. Forgive me and bear with me; something triggered me,” he stated, explaining that the conversation brought heavy personal memories to the surface.
“I also want the world to know I am not crying over a woman; I am only crying over my children.”
Obasi further expressed deep disappointment at the lack of empathy from fellow Nigerian men who took to social media to mock the handkerchief he used rather than listening to his core message. He urged his critics to look past the superficial optics of the viral clip and pay attention to a father’s genuine, painful plea to be granted access to his children, warning that the casual dismissal of such deep family issues is a dangerous trend.
