A bloody farmer-herder clash in Gulma Town, Argungu LGA of Kebbi State has left at least eight people dead and triggered a government-imposed curfew.
The violence erupted on Tuesday evening after a herder, Yaron Buba Dogo, allegedly allowed his cattle to destroy the crops of a farmer, Alhaji Aminu Ala. A fierce confrontation ensued, resulting in the fatal stabbing of the farmer. In retaliation, an angry local mob attacked the herder, killing him and setting his body ablaze before the violence escalated into a widespread community clash.
Four more individuals were burnt beyond recognition, and two additional corpses were recovered from nearby farmland. Security operatives managed to rescue five vulnerable persons, moving them to protective custody. A joint security task force has been deployed to enforce the curfew, restore total order, and hunt down the perpetrators.
