A horrific road crash near the Saapade Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State has claimed the lives of ten people and left six others with severe injuries. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Command confirmed that the late-night accident involved eighteen people, including fifteen adult males, two adult females, and one male child. Preliminary investigations by traffic officials revealed that the tragedy was triggered by dangerous driving, speed violations, and wrongful overtaking. A white Sinotruk truck driver reportedly missed his route and attempted to reverse on the busy highway, leaving an oncoming Toyota Hiace commercial bus with little room to maneuver before ramming into the heavy-duty vehicle at high speed. FRSC rescue operatives arrived promptly at the scene to evacuate the injured survivors to Victory Hospital in Ogere for immediate medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased victims were deposited at the FOS Mortuary in Ipara. The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the victims’ families while issuing a stern warning to motorists, especially truck operators and commercial drivers, to completely desist from traffic violations like reversing on expressways.
