Married Woman Alleges Husband Threatens Her Life, Says Divorce Is Forbidden by Tradition

A Nigerian woman has publicly alleged that her life is at risk, claiming she remains trapped in her marriage because cultural traditions forbid her from leaving without her husband’s consent.

In a series of posts shared on Facebook, the woman, identified as Ifeoma Best, accused her husband of threatening to kill her and taking possession of her personal property, allegedly claiming that everything she owns belongs to him.

She said she has repeatedly asked for a divorce and requested that her husband settle her before ending the marriage, but according to her, he has refused.

Ifeoma further explained that, under the customs of her community, it is considered a taboo for a married woman to leave her matrimonial home unless her husband formally sends her away.

She claimed that the cultural expectation has left her feeling trapped despite fearing for her safety.

In an emotional appeal, Ifeoma urged the public to hold her husband accountable if anything should happen to her or if she suddenly goes silent.

Her allegations have sparked concern on social media, with many users calling for authorities to investigate the claims and ensure her safety. As of the time of this report, the husband has not publicly responded to the allegations.
