An Anglican bishop has called on political leaders at every level to embrace responsive and people-centered governance, saying it remains the most effective path toward addressing Nigeria’s many social, economic, and security challenges. Speaking during a public engagement, the cleric stressed that good governance should be built on accountability, transparency, fairness, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of citizens. He noted that Nigerians are looking to their leaders for practical solutions to issues such as unemployment, inflation, insecurity, poor infrastructure, and limited access to quality healthcare and education. According to the bishop, government policies should reflect the needs and aspirations of the people, with greater attention given to inclusive development, justice, and equal opportunities for all. He also encouraged public officials to listen more closely to citizens, promote dialogue, and make decisions that strengthen national unity and restore public confidence in government institutions. The bishop urged Nigerians to continue supporting peace, respect the rule of law, and actively participate in the democratic process by holding elected leaders accountable through lawful and constructive means. He added that collaboration between government, religious institutions, civil society, and the private sector is essential for sustainable national progress. Expressing hope for the country’s future, the cleric said Nigeria possesses the human and natural resources needed to achieve lasting development if leadership remains committed to integrity, responsible public service, and policies that prioritize the welfare of the people. He concluded that responsive governance is not only a political responsibility but also a moral obligation that can help build a more stable, prosperous, and united nation.
