Sensational Nigerian rapper, actor, and social activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has launched a scathing critique against the Federal Government, describing the ruling party’s famous campaign slogan, “Emi Lokan” (meaning “It is my turn”), as the most absurd thing he has ever encountered in his life. Speaking during a fiery live interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the vocal entertainer strongly rebuked government officials for using “governance pressure” as an excuse for failing to meet their campaign promises.
Falz heavily questioned the moral and operational priorities of the current administration, drawing a sharp contrast between massive capital investments in luxury items for state officials and the reality of everyday Nigerians. He noted that it makes zero national sense to invest heavily in the comfort of politicians while the civilian population continues to grapple with a harsh economy and unchecked internal security crises.
“If you look at what has been spent on acquiring new vehicles, acquiring jets, acquiring all these things, and look at what has actually gone on with insecurity and what we’re facing, what are your priorities?” Falz asked during the broadcast.
The Absurdity of “It Is My Turn”
The multidisciplinary artist, who has long been a thorn in the side of systemic corruption in Nigeria, explained that the foundational mindset of the administration was flawed from day one. He analyzed the linguistic weight of the “Emi Lokan” catchphrase, arguing that it exposed a self-serving agenda rather than a genuine desire for public service.
“Did anyone beg you to take up this? If I remember clearly, apart from the fact that this is public service, and you do everything within your power to campaign, to enter into office, the campaign slogan for this administration was Emi Lokan,” Falz asserted. “I’ve never seen anything more absurd than that in my entire life. That means from day one, that you set out on your political journey, this is the day that you have been waiting for. So why can’t you come and say pressure is much on you? Are you okay?”
Falz’s scathing remarks have ignited a massive firestorm across social media, trending under various political hashtags. While pro-government commentators argue that purchasing new state assets is necessary for administrative efficiency and safety, a vast majority of fans and civil rights advocates have rallied behind the rapper. Many praised him for consistently leveraging his high-profile celebrity status to speak truth to power and champion accountability at a time when ordinary citizens are bearing the economic brunt of national inflation and widespread hardship.
