National Reputation Campaign Encourages UNILAG Students to Promote Nigeria’s Positive Image

The organisers of the Pivot National Reputation Campaign have called on students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to become ambassadors of Nigeria by promoting the country’s positive values, achievements, and potential both at home and abroad. Speaking during an engagement with students, representatives of the campaign emphasised that young people have a vital role to play in shaping national identity and strengthening Nigeria’s global reputation through responsible conduct, innovation, academic excellence, entrepreneurship, and active civic participation. They encouraged students to use digital platforms responsibly by sharing stories that reflect the country’s progress, creativity, resilience, cultural diversity, and economic opportunities while avoiding the spread of misinformation and harmful narratives. According to the campaign organisers, building a strong national image requires collective effort from citizens, educational institutions, government agencies, the private sector, and civil society organisations. They stressed that every positive contribution made by Nigerians, whether in education, business, science, technology, sports, arts, or community service, helps improve the nation’s standing on the global stage. Students were also urged to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, patriotism, and respect for the rule of law as future leaders and representatives of the country. University officials welcomed the initiative, noting that institutions of higher learning play an important role in nurturing responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national development. Analysts observed that reputation-building extends beyond public relations and depends largely on sustained progress in governance, economic growth, security, innovation, education, and social development. They added that empowering young people to become positive ambassadors can complement broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s international image. The campaign concluded by encouraging students to remain optimistic, embrace leadership opportunities, and contribute to national development through excellence, creativity, and ethical conduct. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to inspire a new generation of Nigerians committed to projecting a positive and progressive image of the nation.
