We earlier reported that the Uganda police arrested fast-rising Nigerian artist omah lay and tems for violating the covid-19 rule, which the Uganda police public relations officer announced on Twitter.
The Uganda police have failed to arrest the event organizers but instead went after international artists’ omah lay and tems booked to perform.
omah and tems were arrested just after their performance on Sunday, December 13, 2020, in Uganda, which many reacted to, saying it makes no sense.
Uganda police force charged omah lay, and tems to court for violating the covid-19 rule, accusing of likely spreading the infectious disease.
They Twitted saying:
“The earlier plans of releasing them on police bond, were suspended after their casefile was sanctioned by the Office of the DPP. They were jointly charged with four other Ugandans. All remanded till Wednesday 16.12.2020.”
“The Nigerian trio of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been charged to court in Makindye on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.”
In a series of tweets, omah lay shared his experience with the Uganda police force while in custody. The singer tweeted;
“I’m in cuffs in Uganda right now with Tems.”
“I’m just a singer trying to entertain, why am I being set up in Uganda?”
“I didn’t organize a show, I came on stage and saw teeming fans and sang to them…”
“Why am I being detained? Why am I not been given a right to a fair hearing?”
“Why is Uganda not letting
step into this? They have been trying to secure our release to no avail.”
“Is there something bigger at play in Uganda? Why do I have to take the fall for it???”
He tweeted:
The question on everyone’s mind is why are the organizers are not being arrested or charged to court as well?
