Former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has criticised the performance of several governors in Northern Nigeria, arguing that many of them may struggle to campaign for their preferred political candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kwankwaso said the poor performance of some governors could make it difficult for them to convincingly seek public support or mobilise voters during the upcoming political season. According to him, political leaders should be judged by their records in office and the impact of their policies on the lives of ordinary citizens. He suggested that governors who have failed to deliver meaningful development may face serious challenges when they approach the electorate to solicit votes. The former governor maintained that citizens are increasingly paying attention to issues such as economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, infrastructure and access to social services when evaluating political leaders. His comments come as political activities and discussions about the 2027 elections continue to intensify across the country. Northern Nigeria remains a major political bloc, making the performance and influence of state governors particularly important in determining electoral outcomes. Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to look beyond political promises and assess candidates based on their previous achievements and ability to provide effective leadership.
