Former world record holder Tobi Amusan officially headlines a formidable Nigerian squad selected by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The high-stakes, three-day blockbuster tournament, running from September 11 to 13 at the National Athletics Centre, brings together reigning Olympic champions, global titleholders, and top-ranked season performers to battle for a record-breaking prize purse.
Amusan, who enters Budapest as the second-fastest woman in the world this year with a blistering season’s best of 12.23 seconds in the 100m hurdles, will spearhead the nation’s charge. Beyond her individual specialty, the queen of the tracks is also named as a key anchor in Nigeria’s mixed 4x100m relay pool.
Joining Amusan on the flight to Hungary is an exciting lineup of top-tier talent:
- Kayinsola Ajayi: The explosive Commonwealth Games champion will charge down the track in the men’s 100m, carrying an impressive season’s best of 9.84 seconds.
- Ezekiel Nathaniel: Set to display his fierce form in the men’s 400m hurdles.
