The Arewa Revival Project has forcefully waded into the swirling digital controversy surrounding Senate President Godswill Akpabio, dismissing a viral social media claim alleging that he threatened that Northerners would suffer if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu loses the 2027 election.
In an official statement released by Project Coordinator Hon. Muttaka Ahmed Ibrahim, the coalition condemned the viral graphic as false, misleading, and politically irresponsible. The group argued that the manipulated post was deliberately manufactured by bad actors to drive a wedge between Northern and Southern Nigeria as the political landscape heats up ahead of the 2027 polls.
Challenging the peddlers of the inflammatory content to substantiate their claims, the project noted that attaching a public official’s photograph to quotation marks does not substitute for verified proof.
“The image is not evidence of a quote. Those circulating the graphic should provide the full video recording, date, venue, complete speech, or an authentic transcript from which the alleged quotation was taken. Until such evidence is produced, Nigerians should treat the claim as an unverified political allegation,” the statement read.
The coalition emphasized that Akpabio’s actual public engagements have consistently preached national unity, cross-regional cooperation, and the importance of looking past political differences. Pointing to recent outreaches where the Senate President urged stakeholders to view elections as a democratic contest rather than an existential threat to the federation, the group cautioned citizens against swallowing unverified digital propaganda hook, line, and sinker.
As political maneuvering intensifies toward 2027, the Arewa Revival Project called on Nigerians—particularly in the North—to rigorously interrogate information sources, reject regional baiting, and focus on issue-based democratic participation.
